Sustainable development and fight against climate change are not new concerns for the French steel industry. A great deal of effort has been made for dozens of years by the member companies of the FFA, in particular with the halving of CO2 emissions for 20 years. In addition the French steel industry did not wait for the implementation of the European Union directive on ETS (Emissions Trading System) before it goes into a voluntary commitment with other industrial firms within the AERES (Association of companies for the reduction of greenhouse effect) to reduce its emissions.

The French steel federation assists its members in dealing with the relevant environmental challenges (sustainable development, REACH, climate change, wastes, eco-design). The Federation informs its members and helps them about their compliance with regulations.

To do it, a legal watching over is realized about news regulations and texts in project, at French, European and international level. FFA gives a long-term vision on future evolutions to the companies so as to afford them to integrate that into their estimates.

With its network functioning, the FFA is an interface between the numerous professional actors: companies of the steel industry, French organizations (GIFAS, FEDEM, FEDEREC, FIM, MEDEF, UIMM, UIC), European (Eurofer, Eurométaux, Euromines, Euroalliages and international ( Worldsteel ). This dialogue furthers actions of lobbying, at the best level.

The Federation is the interlocutor towards the French and European public authorities as well as towards the institutional bodies in dealing with environmental issues and sustainable development. The Federation puts forward a collective approach and the interests of the members by occurring in preparation of texts, and by watching particularly the economic impacts connected to the implementation of these new regulations.

On the other hand, with its environment committee and its working groups, the Federation gathers its members several times a year, offering them a place of exchanges and pooling of experiences.
